Build Your Own Linked Data Application

The New York Times has been busy publishing their news vocabulary as linked open data since 2009. Now, Evan Sandhaus has published a short but thorough tutorial about building an application that’s based on this data.

Build Your Own NYT Linked Data Application

The sample application, “Who Went Where,” lets you explore recent NYT coverage of the alumni of a specified college or university. It is built on DBPedia and Freebase as data sources and the NYT Article Search API to complete the profile of each alumnus. The interface is purely written in JavaScript using jQuery for ease of development.

For more information about linked data I recommend Tim Berners-Lees presentations or the official W3C documentation.
