The world’s eyes

From the Senseable City Lab of MIT comes this interactive visualization displaying geotagged Flickr photos on a map.

Los ojos del mundo (the world’s eyes) illustrates the photos people visiting Spain leave behind them as evidences of contemporary tourism in the country.

The traces left behind by the tourist can be revealed by the collection of the photos they took. What are the most visited and documented buildings? What landscape got the most people excited? Did our newly created fountain really catch the visitors eye? These questions are hard to tell without a documentation and thankfully Flickr is there to provide this data.

More on the projects obejctives and the team behind it can be found on the official project page and more on the process creating it can be read on David Lu’s portfolio. Also there are process sketches available on… you guessed it: Flickr itself.
