Robert Palmer rose to the challenge of creating a flow-chart of the Democrat’s Health Care plan. The motivation to do this came from the previously published diagram by John Boehner. Boehner’s diagram barely communicates any information about the plan and does a terrible job of clarifying the very complex process. Palmer explaines his thoughts in an open letter on Flickr:
By releasing your chart, instead of meaningfully educating the public, you willfully obfuscated an already complicated proposal. There is no simple proposal to solve this problem. You instead chose to shout “12! 16! 37! 9! 24!” while we were trying to count something.
The refined chart is still complex but tries it’s best by meaningful hierarchy, subtle colors and clear typography. One more time we’re reminded of how important a clear communication of information is and how a simple graphic can influence the perception of a system.
