History of the internet
Melih Bilgil created a motion graphics video about the history of the internet using a very minimalistic visual approach to transfer the information. The animation is part of his diploma which consists of a pictorial language (PICOL), the here presented animation and the documentation thereof.
We’d like to present this video here because reduction and clarity are best practices for both fields: information and data visualization.
Creators description
“History of the internet” is an animated documentary explaining the inventions from time-sharing to file-sharing, from arpanet to internet.
The history is told with help of the PICOL icons, which are also a part of my diploma.
Visual language “PICOL”
PICOL stands for Pictorial Communication Language and is a project to find a standard and reduced sign system for electronic communication. PICOL is free to use and open to alter.
You can download the pre-released icons with a size of 32x32px from the official website
