6 conferences to attend in 2009

The are a few conferences out there you wouldn’t miss if you’re involved in data visualization. The following ones are certainly must-see conferences if you have the chance to get there.

LIFT Conference

25.-27.02.2009 Geneva, Switzerland

Lift is a series of events built around a community of doers and thinkers who get together in Europe and Asia to explore the social consequences of new technologies. Each conference is a chance to turn changes into opportunities by anticipating the major shifts ahead, and meeting the people who drive them.

09.-12.03.2009 San Jose CA, USA

ETech, the O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference, is O’Reilly Media’s flagship “O’Reilly Radar” event. ETech is a technologist’s R&D lab, workbench, and playground. We specifically design the conference to expose new ideas and learn from the people behind them.

SEE Conference

18.04.2009 Wiesbaden, Germany

In 2009 the see conference will again bring together fields like design, art, new media and architecture. As before, we’ve got top speakers lined up, some of whom are Aaron Koblin of Google Creative Lab, the software artist Julian Oliver, Sebastian Oschatz from MESO Digital Interiors and Eric Rodenbeck from Stamen Design

OECD Seminiar on innovative approaches to turn statistics into knowledge

15 -16.07.2009 Washington DC, USA

oecd_conferenceThe seminar should contribute to the development of tools to help people transform statistics into knowledge and decisions. A first condition for statistics to be used this way is that relevant statistics become known, available, and understood by wider audiences. The seminar is held in the context of the OECD Global Project on “Measuring the Progress of Societies”. It should contribute to one of the goals quoted in the Istanbul Declaration: “produce a broader, shared, public understanding of changing conditions, while highlighting areas of significant change or inadequate knowledge”.
