Visualize Demographics at UK Universities and David McCandless from Information Is Beautiful have teamed up and put together a new data visualization competition. The lucky winner will take home a brand spanking new iPad2! Participants are asked to investigate the demographics of the top UK universities. It all started with this tweet by David:

Our data on black students at Oxford & other UK universities Intended to visualize, but ran out of time.Fri Apr 15 09:31:40 via TweetDeck

Submissions must be based on the data collected by David, and other sources listed within the dataset. However, participants are free to mashup the data with any other source, provided the sources are publicly available and cited in the entry to the competition. The submissions can be static, animated or interactive. To enter the competition, simply send in your visualization as an image or a link to the interactive version to mark.johnstone[at]postgradsolutions[dot]com and include your full name and email address.

The competition is open now and closes at 11pm GMT on Monday 20th June 2011. Winners will be announced by Monday 4th July 2011. The competition rules are posted here.

Good luck everyone!
