Students’ Insurrection Visualized

Walter Rafelsberger has created an interesting and playful Twitter visualization over at Metaportal der Medienpolemik. He combined a timelined visualization with spring-like animation of related Tweets. The overall visual design may be rather bare-bones but the animation creates a hypnotizing effect.

Walter describes the discussed topic as follows:

The chart shows three hours of conversations around the #unibrennt hashtag which is used by students who occupy Austria’s largest lecture hall at the University of Vienna to stand up against the devastating status of the country’s educational system and where it’s heading.

The application is built with Processing and the Rhizome Navigation Framework. Rhizome Navigation is developed and maintained by Walter himself and looks like a promising library for graph based interfaces and visualizations.
